Introduced fauna is controlled in tourist sites in Isabela

Park rangers from the Directorate of the Galapagos National Park placed rodent control stations at the visitor sites: La Calera, Tintoreras Islet and El Finado, located on Isabela Island, to control and eradicate introduced species such as the black rat (Rattus rattus).

The technicians hold the baits with metal wire that allows them to be attached to the inside of PVC tubes, which are placed around the indicated places. The baits are designed to affect only the target species and are harmless to endemic species.

The control of introduced species makes it possible to guarantee the reproduction of endemic species of Galapagos such as the marine iguana, which is currently in the nesting season.
